Seeing where enquiries come from
Track whether enquiries found you through Google, ads, ChatGPT, Facebook or somewhere else, automatically.
Every enquiry shows its source: Google Ads, Google (organic), ChatGPT, Claude, Facebook, an email campaign, another website, or Direct. You can filter the Inbox by it, and Reports → Where enquiries come from shows which sources bring enquiries and which win work.
1. Add the tracking script to your website
In Settings → Inbox, press Copy tracking script and paste it into every page of your website, in the <head>. Most website builders have a “header code” or “custom code” setting that adds it to every page at once.
It notes where each visitor came from and sends it with your Doodali form. It collects campaign details only, nothing personal.
Cookie rules
By default the script stores nothing on the visitor’s device: it reads the page they’re on, which works when your form is on the page they arrived at. To remember where they came from as they browse other pages (for up to 90 days), it needs their OK under the UK’s cookie rules:
- If your site has a cookie banner, have it run
doodaliTracking.allow()when the visitor accepts, anddoodaliTracking.deny()if they refuse. - Or, if you’ve decided your privacy policy covers it, add
data-consent="granted"to the script tag.
Visitors whose browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal are never remembered. Mention the tracking in your privacy policy either way.
2. Tag your own links
Search engines and AI assistants are recognised automatically. For your own ads, emails and social posts, add UTM tags to the link so the campaign shows too, for example:
https://yoursite.co.uk/offer?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=paid&utm_campaign=spring-offer
Google Ads and Microsoft Ads add their own click ids, so those are recognised without tags.
3. Sources you can’t track
Word of mouth, existing customers, events and flyers can’t be seen by a website. Choose them yourself on the enquiry, or when you log a phone enquiry (“How did they find you?”).
Tags
Add your own tags to any enquiry (“Kitchen”, “Referral from Dave”) from the enquiry’s side panel. Filter the Inbox by tag, and see tags in Reports.
Some browsers and apps hide where a visitor came from, so a small share of enquiries will always show as Direct.
